After I walked last year, my mother and grandmother both informed me that March of Dimes has been boycotted by those who are pro-life for decades. I was shocked to hear this because it seems like such a wonderful organization! After doing some research, I was very saddened to discover that they support Planned Parenthood (the nation's largest abortion provider). That in itself was enough to make me say "No, thank you." I know people think that Planned Parenthood is this amazing organization that does so much more for women than just providing abortion. Read about the 9 things you should know about Planned Parenthood - which reveals their true agenda. There are many others reasons why I do not support Planned Parenthood (such as the fact that it was founded by a racist eugenicist named Margaret Sanger), but that is another post in itself. The MOD says the money they give to PP doesn't fund abortions, but I wouldn't give money to even pay the electricity bill to keep that place operating. MOD says they are "neutral" on the abortion issue. The way I see it, not taking a stand is taking a stand. I don't see how an organization that is for babies can also be against them? Being for life should mean being for-every-life, both born and unborn, wanted and "unwanted."
We recognize that some of the things MOD has done are great, but their support of embryonic stem cell research, fetal tissue research, and abortion as an alternative to prenatal abnormalities is as anti-life as you can get.

There are many non-profits such as the United Way and the Susan G. Komen Foundation that donate to Planned Parenthood. If you ever want information and a complete list of which non-profits support Planned Parenthood and the abortion industry, please visit Life Decisions International’s website. Life Decisions International does a great job of keeping an updated list on the various organizations that directly support the abortion industry.
Pray that more pro-life alternatives to the March of Dimes will become available!
*Update several hours after first posting: When I posted this, I wasn't expecting to win a popularity contest for it. I have lost at least one blog follower and have received some not-so-nice comments (which I've chosen to delete for they were not uplifting or edifying). I want to remind everyone reading this that this is my blog and I can share whatever I want. If you don't like it, you don't have to be here. I am pro-life and this blog has a lot of pro-life material on it. Please do not attack me or say mean things to me for stating my beliefs. And people deserve to know who and what MOD supports. I am just trying to give people the truth so they can make their own decision on whether or not they want to support this organization. I also said above that I in no way judge anyone for walking or raising money because yes, it's true, MOD does do good...however, I cannot justify supporting the good they do in light of the bad. As a friend said to me earlier, not all good works are God-honoring. I don't judge others for supporting them so please do not judge me for not supporting them. As a pro-life, post-abortive woman, this is where I stand in my beliefs and I will not make exceptions.

The March of Dimes longstanding position of neutrality on the issue of abortion is reflected throughout the organization’s many programs and as well as in its advocacy work. March of Dimes grantees are prohibited from using March of Dimes funds for abortion research, to pay for abortions, or to give directive advice or counseling concerning abortions, and are required to sign acknowledgment of this policy. We are pleased that people with differing views on abortion can come together to support the March of Dimes mission of ensuring healthier births.

She didn't say MOD gives money to fund abortions, but she is saying March of Dimes supports Planned Parenthood in general. And she rather have her money go somewhere else.

From my personal opinion and clicking on the links I realized that the links and the information are someones opinion and not from the official March of Dimes page. You cannot always believe what is on the internet. When researching and looking at the internet there are a few things one should keep in mind....is it a reputable page such as a journal, University or College or a organizations official page? How old is the page? Has it been updated recently. In 2013 as everything is on the internet be it the truth or not one should look at each page with a cautoius eye.

ReplyDeleteI made the mistake of posting a link onto FaceBook, showing the MOD webpage that clearly stated their support for PP. I was polite and respectful when sharing the link and my pro-life opinion (as you are here in this page). The result: I was de-friended by multiple people, and personally attacked. Not only that, a few people accused me of lying (despite posting a link to the actual MOD page)!
I don't get it. I have many girl friends who are very out-spoken in their support of PP, but when I voice my pro-life stance I am publicly ridiculed. Great.
I noticed also that the MOD website no longer lists the specific grantees (you have to call your local chapter for that info)... I wonder why.... hmmm...

I have considered sharing on my blog as well but admit I got nervous after being attacked when my blog was still new and I shared why I don't support the American Cancer Society/Relay for Life. My husband is a 2x cancer survivor, but I can't support an organization that isn't Pro-Life. Like you, I don't judge anyone that does, but if we don't inform people those that may not otherwise support them if they knew will keep on supporting something they, too, wouldn't support once they know the truth! Again, thank-you for sharing and encouraging me to be brave and start sharing again, too. :)

I found "you" because I am searching regarding donating to MOD for a campaign my neighbor is participating in. My daughter who volunteers at our PRO-LIFE pregnancy center thought that MOD is a supporter of abortion, PP, etc. Thank you for clearing this up for me. I will NOT be making a contribution to MOD.

ReplyDeleteI went into labor at 27 weeks gestation. I had called the March of Dimes to see if they could help out THEY BASICLY COLLECT MILLIONS OF DOLLARS A YEAR TO HAND OUT PAMPLETS! I almost lost my house, I had two other children. They couldn't even help me out with vouchers for used baby clothes from a thrift store or anything! I asked if they even had support groups for the mothers dealing with their children being in ICU for months and months on end. Nothing! They said their mission was to solely provide information through pamphlets to PREVENT premature birth. They DON'T ACTUALLY HELP PREMIES OR THEIR FAMILIES!
ReplyDeleteI believe that the money March of Dimes supports planned parenthood with goes towards prenatal care and gynecological clinic's. Planned parenthood is the largest provider of affordable women's health care. Many women get free or low cost OB GYN services through thier local clinics, they do much more of that than abortions. And healthy pregnancies make healthy babies.
ReplyDeleteWhile they don't provide funding specifically for babies or families to get financial assistance while in NICU they do more than provide pamphlets. For instance finding from March of Dimes was used to provide a support group for NICU families in our hospital. Most of the money however goes toward research to prevent premature births and birth defects. Currently that includes funding research into a vaccine against Zika virus. It's fine to have your own stance on things and boycott if that's your conscience, just make sure you have the facts and aren't spreading false info. Far greater millions of children world wide are alive today because of this organization than anything else.
That fact that they support Planned Parenthood actually makes me more inclined to donate to them. Everyone should have the right to do with their body as they choose and they will, I would rather see people going to planned Parenthood than "taking care of it on their own".

I, myself was a micro-preemie born 4 months early. my family has always supported march of dimes but not I don't know what to believe...
